One-Line Bio

20-something designer and superhero, conquering the world one project at a time

Biography

Marissa is a Boston-based designer who has been sewing since preschool. These days her creative pursuits include sewing, knitting, printmaking, and illustration. She studies graphic design at Massachusetts College of Art and obsesses about typography on a daily basis.

So, what's a thimblewinder?

I have no idea. It's a nonsense word that I heard long ago and decided I really liked the sound of. It actually comes from a Shoebox Greeting card I got from my friend Teresa in 4th grade. Miss Thimblewinder was a Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle sort of character (but a hamster or guinea pig, not a hedgehog) that was at a tea party on the front of the card. For some reason, it stuck with me. Now you know the whole story.

But "thimblewinder" makes no sense!

Right. As anyone who knows their way around a sewing kit will tell you, a thimble is a little cap that sits on your finger to avoid needle wounds, and a bobbin is what you'd wind thread around. Like I said, it's nonsense, but that's what makes it fun.
